Ransomware attacks can have a huge impact and cost lives and livelihoods.
Now though, investigators involved in an international operation say they have severely disrupted the activities of what is thought to be the world's largest criminal ransomware group
Ciaran Martin is the former head of the UK's national cyber security center. He gave his assessment of the operation to Newshour's Julian Marshall.
