‘I surprised him with a cake that said: ‘I love you, marry me?’’
2024 is a leap year, which means we’re fast approaching the day when women are traditionally ‘allowed’ to propose to their male partner – 29 February.
What do you think of this? Do you think women wanting to propose should be confined to one day every four years?
This week, Woman’s Hour listener Lara got in touch with ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 4's Woman's Hour to share her experience of proposing to her partner on a leap day in 2016.
She told Emma Barnett that less than a year in remission from breast cancer and with her partner, who has cystic fibrosis, very poorly in hospital, she decided that there was no time to lose and proposed using a heart-shaped cake with the words ‘I love you, marry me?’ written on it.
She says she wanted him to know that she was there for him through the difficult times.
You can listen to the full interview on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sounds – it’s the Woman’s Hour episode from 26 February.
