'We were quoted 拢100k to get high-speed broadband'

A south Lincolnshire man wanting a high-speed broadband connection to his home says he has been told it would cost more than 拢100,000 to have it installed.

Kevin Mortimer, who lives near Sutton Bridge, currently gets a broadband speed of less than 1MB per second, so finds streaming or using social media almost impossible - but when he asked BT about getting the old copper cable network upgraded to fibre-optic cabling he was quoted a six-figure fee.

BT say the quote was provided under the government's Universal Service Obligation and reflects the cost of connecting a small number of properties to a high-speed broadband network.
