Has Gabriel Garc铆a M谩rquez been betrayed by his sons?
Rodrigo Garc铆a, says: 鈥淲e have overruled not him the writer, but we have overruled him the writer who had lost his faculties and was in the fog of Alzheimer鈥檚 disease.鈥
When Nobel Prize-winning author Gabriel Garc铆a M谩rquez died a decade ago, he left behind a novel he had written while struggling with dementia.
In his final days, he told his sons the book must be destroyed.
However, they have defied their father鈥檚 wishes and published the book, titled, Until August.
Rodrigo Garc铆a is the son of the Colombian writer who was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature for his tome, One Hundred Years of Solitude. He told Newsday: 鈥淲hat he said was, 鈥楾his doesn鈥檛 make any sense, it鈥檚 a mess.鈥 And then another time he would say, 鈥業t should be destroyed鈥. And then other times he would go back to work on it and he could make sense of it and then he simply forgot it existed鈥hat鈥檚 how we came to the conclusion.鈥
He added: 鈥淲e have overruled not him the writer, but we have overruled him the writer who had lost his faculties and was in the fog of Alzheimer鈥檚 disease.鈥
