The woman who wants to challenge Paul Kagame
The Rwandan opposition politician Victoire Ingabire wants to run against Paul Kagame for president of her country in elections scheduled for later this year. But the High Court in Kigale refused to allow her to stand because of previous convictions against her. She tells Newshour's Tim Franks why she wants to be a candidate, and what she thinks of the British government declaring Rwanda a "safe country".

Ingabire was refused her request for the rehabilitation of her political right to run for office. Convicted in 2013 for "conspiring against the government by use of war and terrorism" and "genocide denial" she was released in 2018 by presidential pardon.
