Dame Laura Kenny: 'It's just not worth it now for me'

Britain’s most successful female Olympian, Dame Laura Kenny, has spoken to Woman's Hour presenter Emma Barnett about why she's retiring from cycling.

She told Emma that the sacrifice was too great, and that she wanted to step back to spend more time with her two children, Albie and Monty, rather than competing.

With the Paris Olympics this summer, Laura had been training to attempt to qualify, but after giving birth to her second child last July, she said just speaking about it left her feeling sick.

Laura won five Olympic golds and seven World Championship titles in her career, and was the first British woman to win a gold medal at three consecutive Olympics.

She said the idea that you can 'have it all' - a career and a family - is possible, but you have to think about whether it's worth it in the long run, for your happiness.

You can listen to the full interview on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sounds- it's the Woman's Hour episode from 18 March.
