Smart meters: The Martin Lewis verdict
Martin Lewis has been explaining what he thinks of smart meters, which have been in the news recently over claims nearly four million of the devices in the UK aren't working properly.
Martin says he鈥檚 in favour of the concept, but says the rollout of the system has been "an over-expensive abomination".
"They rolled them out when they weren't compatible, they've rolled them out when so many of them were broken. It has not been a good use of public money", he said.
Energy UK, the trade association for the energy industry, says suppliers must replace broken meters.
Martin did say that smart meters were beneficial to many because people they allow energy use to be monitored in real time.
