24. April: Out of the Greenhouse and onto The Plot

Your weekly seasonal guide to a successful allotment with gardener Terry Walton.

Down to earth gardening advice on growing your own fruit and vegetables with allotment gardener Terry Walton, from his plot in the Rhondda Valley.
In the greenhouse Terry has advice on treating seeds and seedlings gently to get the best results, using his own home made tools that have helped him produce years of successful crops. He talks through the long and productive life cycle of the bamboo canes that support numerous crops from beans to sweet peas and tomatoes to chrysanthemums.
It's time to plant the lettuce outside and make sure they're safely under a cloche. And if you're looking for some early rhubarb Terry has advice on keeping your plants temporarily in the dark to force some 'champagne rhubarb'.

If you're planning your own plot and need help deciding what to grow you can download Terry's crop calendar, search online for Terry Walton's Plotcast and click on the link.
