Explained: What are local elections?

You may have heard there are local elections around the corner.
It is to elect local councillors and police and crime commissioners in your local area.
You will be able to cast your vote on Thursday 2nd May 2024.
But what is a local election?
Who are you being asked to vote for and can they really help you and your community?
