Leicester's City Mayor has put development plans for Leicester market on hold.

In a press briefing Sir Peter Soulsby said he鈥檚聽looking at the possibility of keeping the area as an open space - as it has been for 700 out of the last 800 years.

He says councillors and others have said that the space cleared by the removal of the covered market provides a once in a lifetime opportunity. But he admitted that Market traders remain concerned about the future.
