31. May: Runner Beans - clockwise or anti?

Down to earth gardening advice on growing your own fruit and vegetables with Terry Walton, from his allotment in the Rhondda Valley.

Down to earth gardening advice on growing your own fruit and vegetables with allotment gardener Terry Walton, from his plot in the Rhondda Valley.
Terry checks on his broad beans and has advice on how to avoid blackfly and make sure all the energy goes into the beans. Now that the risk of frost is over it's time to plant the runner beans and french beans out onto the plot. Terry has bean sticks already in place for all 50 plants! It won't be long before the beans have twirled their way around the sticks - but which way will they grow? Will it be clockwise or anti clockwise and does it depend on where you live?
And Terry explains how putting waterweed Elodea in your garden water butts can keep the water in good condition.

To plan your own crops, search for Terry Walton's Plotcast online and you'll see Terry's Crop Calendar.
