A guide to D-Day 80 events in Coventry and Warwickshire

Here's where you can commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day in our area.

Across Coventry and Warwickshire, memorial benches have been erected, village greens have turned red, and knitted soldiers are standing.

Here is a guide to where you can you can mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day in our area.

Fillongley:

There will be a beacon lighting, fireworks display and bonfire from 7:00pm on Hardingwood Lane and tickets will be available on the gate.

Kenilworth:

There will be a short remembrance service at the War Memorial in Abbey Fields from 11am with a free event later on at Kenilworth Castle from 7:30pm including performances, crafts, a reading and a beacon lighting.

Warwick and Leamington:

There will be a service at The War Memorial at 11am, with a beacon lighting at 9:15 at Newbold Comyn.

Rugby:

Commemorations are happening by the War Memorial in Hillmorton, where the community has come together to create one beautiful display.

Stratford-upon-Avon:

Events kick of at 9:00pm with an act of commemoration in the Garden of Remembrance, led by the vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Revd. Patrick Taylor and there will be a beacon lighting there too.

Bedworth:

The town that never forgets is holding a service at 10:30am at the War Memorial.

Nuneaton:

The Royal British Legion鈥檚 Nuneaton and Stockingford branch is holding an act of remembrance at the War Memorial in Riversley Park at 10:30am.

On Saturday, the town crier will be at Nuneaton Town Hall steps for 2:00pm, with a parade following shortly after. The parade halts at Clinic Drive which will be renamed Fusilier Louis Carter Drive.

Beacon lightings will also be taking place in Sheepy, Burton Dassett, Dunchurch, Wroxall, Fillongley, Kingshurst, Claverdon, Lighthorne, Studley, Southam and Shipston on Stour.
