Good morning. Cornwall Council is supporting a new project which will try to predict the effects of climate change on Cornwall鈥檚 coast.
The project, which is called Making Space for Sand, is managed by the Department of the Environment, and scientists will gather data on 40 beaches across Cornwall over five years.
In particular, they want to study the effects of of stronger storms and higher sea levels on the sand dunes.
The scientists will then use computer modelling to produce maps of our coastline over the next hundred years.
The project leader, Professor Gerd Masselink, said that there was not enough money to protect the whole coast, but that the results would be used to manage where new developments might be built.

Parents of children with special educational needs and disabilities have begun a campaign to save a boarding service at Pencalenick School in Truro.
Cornwall Council has proposed to remove the boarding service, saying that it was used by less than ten pupils a night, at a yearly cost of 拢500,000.
The mother of one pupil, Lisa De-Bargeton, said that the school had made a big difference to the social skills of her son Louis, who is autistic.
The council said that it would be more efficient to use the money to provide more daytime services for pupils with special needs.
It has begun a consultation process about this proposal, and the parents will have to make their views known by the 10th June.

And finally, St Austell Brewery has announced the date of its annual beer festival in support of local charities.
The Celtic Beer Festival returned to Cornwall last year after a gap of four years because of the Covid pandemic, and 拢20,000 was raised, which was used to support charities, communities and individuals in need.
At the festival this year, you will be able to try beers from Cornwall and the South West, as well as listen to live musical performances throughout the day.
However, if you鈥檙e feeling thirsty, you鈥檒l have to wait until the 30th of November. Cheers!

But I can鈥檛 go without mentioning the Royal Cornwall Show which began yesterday. The Show Secretary, Chris Riddle, who has managed the event for the last 35 years, will be retiring this year. Mark Stoddart has been chosen to replace him.
