100 years since Wirral men attempted Everest climb
We all know the story of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tensing Norgay reaching the summit of Everest in 1953, but did you know that there were two men, both with Wirral connections, who tried and failed to reach the summit of the worlds highest mountain?
This year marks the centenary of George Mallory and Andrew ‘Sandy’ Irvine's attempt to climb Everest, and it's being celebrated in a new exhibition as part of Wirral Borough of Culture.
Historian and great niece of Sandy Irvine, Julie Summers, has the story.
