What is courier fraud?

Victims of courier fraud lost an average of £20,032 last year. Courier fraud is when a scammer impersonates an authority, such as the police or bank, over the phone, and encourages their victim to hand over money, valuables or bank cards, which will be collected from them in person by couriers. Investigative journalist Hayley Hassall explains how the scam works and warning signs to look out for - including how scammers may even prompt you to call 999 to convince you they're real.
