Olympian Helen Glover: Motherhood has given me an ‘extra edge’

Two-time gold medallist Helen Glover will be rowing for Team GB in the Olympics this summer, and she says being a mum has made her the best athlete she’s ever been.

Helen’s schedule includes three training sessions every day – but she took a break to speak to Anita Rani about preparing for the upcoming 2024 Paris Games, how motherhood has changed her as an athlete, and how she always makes time to pick her kids up from school.

Helen says she’s still just as competitive as ever, but her family motivate her and help put everything in perspective when she’s competing.

She also described how empowering it is to see a diversity of body shapes and sizes in the Olympic Village, and why it’s so important for young women and girls to have athletes as role models.

You can listen to Helen’s full interview with Anita on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sounds – it’s the Woman’s Hour episode from 14 June.
