Letby's arrest followed a painstaking investigation by Cheshire Police called 鈥淥peration Hummingbird鈥�. The sole focus for the team was to investigate the alarming and unexplained rise in deaths and near-fatal collapses of premature babies in the Countess of Chester Hospital's neonatal unit.
In 2023 Letby was given multiple life sentences for murder and attempted murder, however a verdict could not be reached on the allegation involving an infant referred to as 'Baby K' and a retrial was ordered.
