Saint Lucia to celebrate first ever Olympic medal with national holiday
Saint Lucia鈥檚 Sports Minister Kenson Casimir has confirmed there are plans for a national holiday to celebrate Julien Alfred winning the country鈥檚 first ever Olympic medal.
Alfred won the women鈥檚 100m title at Paris 2024 in a national record of 10.72 seconds 鈥 adding Olympic gold to the world 60m indoor title she won earlier in 2024.
Speaking from Paris after the historic achievement, the country鈥檚 sports minister told Sportsworld鈥檚 Lee James how a 鈥渃elebration committee鈥 had already been set up to celebrate the achievement including plans for a 鈥渘ational holiday鈥.
He also says how he hopes more medals will follow for the country at the Paris and future Olympic Games.
