Adriana Ruano Oliva: Guatemala’s first-ever Olympic champion

Adriana Ruano Oliva made history at Paris 2024, winning Guatemala’s first-ever Olympic gold medal.

Ruano Olivia won gold in the Olympic women's trap shooting final, setting a new Games record of 45 out of 50 hits.

A spinal cord injury ended her chances of competing at the Olympics as a gymnast, but, after taking up the sport of shooting, she tells Sportsworld’s Delyth Lloyd how volunteering at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games reignited her hope of becoming an Olympian herself.

She also shares what winning gold means and the conversation she’s already had with the Guatemala's President on growing the sport in the country.
