‘When I’m in the workshop carving stone, I just think: ‘I never want to leave!’’

As part of Woman’s Hour’s Listener Week, reporter Martha Owen travelled to Lincolnshire to meet Rachael Wragg, a stonemason for Lincoln Cathedral.

Lots of Woman’s Hour listeners had got in touch with us to say that you’d love to hear from Rachael to find out more about her craft and what her unique day job consists of.

Rachael showed Martha the process of replacing damaged stones and putting in new ones to preserve the beauty of the cathedral. This is all done using locally sourced Lincoln limestone.

She also took Martha through all of the tools needed to do her job, how she chips away at the limestone and even the excitement of sometimes finding fossils!

You can listen to Rachael’s full interview on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sounds - it’s the Woman’s Hour episode from 19 August.
