George Carden reports.
Direct Line Insurance sent us this statement.
"Direct Line Group takes its environmental responsibilities very seriously and always aims to limit impact where we can. However, in this case, subsidence caused by an adjacent Oak tree is damaging our customer鈥檚 home. After exploring all alternatives, our surveyors have advised that removing the tree is the most effective solution to protect the property. We've worked closely with various stakeholders to explore alternatives and remain in discussions with the local Parish, who own the tree, and will ultimately decide the next course of action.鈥
Horsham District Council tells us that they had to give permission to fell that tree - because town and planning regulations means that they are liable for any damage to buildings from the tree - from taxpayer money.
The Parish Council have been contacted for a statement but have not replied.
