Springfield Mayor: We told Vance that pets claims were false
Rob Rue tells Newshour that his administration has contacted Vice-Presidential candidate J.D. Vance’s campaign to inform them that claims Haitian migrants were eating pets in the city of Springfield, Ohio were not backed by any evidence. Both Vance and Donald Trump have repeated the claim, with Trump mentioning them during his debate with Kamala Harris on September 10th.
Rue also tells presenter Lyse Doucet that Donald Trump’s threats to carry out mass deportations in the city ‘increased anxiety’ and that Springfield needed ‘help not hate’.
