Experts, Explanations and an Apology

The court hears how Officer Martyn Blake is "truly sorry" but insisted his actions were "entirely proportionate, lawful and necessary".

Follow the trial of Metropolitan firearms officer Martyn Blake, who has been charged with the murder of Chris Kaba. Chris died from a single gunshot after being stopped by police in Streatham, south London, on Tuesday 5 September 2022. Martyn Blake, who was previously known only as NX121, has pleaded not guilty to murder.

In this episode reporters Adina Campbell and Ross Ryan follow the trial as it enters its second week, with experts - including a forensic scientist and a pathologist - entering the witness box. We also hear more details of a statement Martyn Blake made after he shot Chris Kaba, in which he said is "truly sorry" for the "enormous distress" felt by the family, but insisted it was "entirely proportionate, lawful and necessary".
