‘I received online abuse over coconut placard’
Marieha Hussain attended a pro-Palestinian march in November 2023 with a placard depicting the then Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and former Home Secretary Suella Braverman as coconuts.
After a photo of her placard went viral online, police charged her with committing a racially aggravated public order offence.
She was found not guilty at Westminster Magistrates Court after a two-day trial.
Marieha has been speaking to 5 Live’s Naga Munchetty in her first broadcast media interview since the trial.
She explains how much her life has been affected since going viral online, including losing her job and the impact on her wider family.
This clip is originally from Naga Munchetty on Wednesday 9 October 2024.
