'Chloe was a ball of energy, she just loved life'

The mum of a Leicestershire teenager who died after delays in her treatment for Sepsis says there must be better training and awareness of the bacterial infection in hospitals.

13 year old Chloe Longster from Market Harborough died after she was admitted to Kettering General Hospital in November 2022 with a severe chest infection.

An inquest into her death found a series of failures on the children's ward led to her death.

The hospital has apologised. Julie Hogg, group chief nurse for University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group, said: 'When Chloe was at her most vulnerable she did not get the care that she should have, and when Chloe had passed away her family were not treated with the compassion and empathy they deserved, and for that I鈥檓 truly sorry.'

Chloe's mum Louise Longster told Ady Dayman that she felt she had to convince staff her daughter was seriously ill.
