‘I never once thought I’m going to win’: Mike De Decker’s shock darts win
Mike De Decker says he “never once thought” he was going to win as the Belgian darts player caused a huge upset, beating defending champion Luke Humphries to win the World Grand Prix title.
The Belgian, a 200-1 outsider before the tournament, withstood a fightback from the world number one to triumph 6-4 in his first major final.
Despite his long odds, De Decker, who was ranked 36th in the world rankings before the tournament, beat four players with a combined total of 26 major titles - Gary Anderson, James Wade, Dimitri van den Bergh and Humphries.
He tells Sport Today’s Ed Harry about his disbelief of winning, how he nearly stepped away from professional darts, and why he thinks he may not be ready for the Premier League just yet.
