Victim calls on Welby to resign over Church abuse scandal
A victim of a prolific abuser associated with the Church of England has added to calls for the resignation of the Archbishop of Canterbury. John Smyth died in 2018, having subjected around 130 boys and young men to physical, sexual and psychological attacks. A review has concluded Justin Welby could and should have reported Smyth to the police when he learnt about the full extent of the abuse in 2013. Lambeth Palace says the archbishop does not intend to resign. One of Smyth's victims, Andy Morse told Jonny Dymond on the Today programme Justin Welby should go.
