Listener Jonathan thinks that CrowdScience presenters Marnie Chesterton and Caroline Steel sound very similar. In fact, he can’t even tell the difference between them when he hears them on air. Marnie decides to put Jonathan’s observation to the test. She recruits the help of Dr Melanie Weirich from Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany. Melanie’s a phonetician – someone who explores the sound of our voices – and her analysis of Marnie and Caroline’s vocal samples reveals that Jonathan may well be onto something....
