Stourport residents 'let down' over Council sell-off

Proposals to create a major tree-lined gateway linking the Worcestershire town's shops to its canal basins has been confined to the dustbin.

13 years ago, Wyre Forest District Council bought a patch of land in Bridge Street, before revealing a vision to create a walking route from the town centre to the water, in a bid to boost tourism and open up the area like never before.

After it failed to attract initial investment, they turned it in to a car park as a 'temporary measure'.

Now that site is being up for sale, after admitting the long-term vision will not happen.

Tom Edwards reports.

In a statement, Wyre Forest District Council say they have 'tried, many times to secure a viable development on the site', but it has 'not been possible' and they are now looking to sell the land.

It adds: 'It is disappointing, but market forces over many years have not been favourable; developers have not been forthcoming.'
