Bulkington's bright idea saves Christmas switch-on
A Christmas lights switch-on in Bulkington has been saved by a community fundraiser, after the local council withdrew some funding.
Volunteers raised about 拢5,000 to fund the event in the Warwickshire village.
The council said it had not cancelled the Christmas lights switch-on in Bulkington.
A spokesperson said: 鈥淭he lights have been provided and installed as usual for 拢22,500, which includes storage for most of the year and the erection and dismantling costs.鈥
The council said it had only withdrawn 拢2,000 of funding for staffing and other management costs.
The spokesperson added: 鈥淭his aspect is being handed over to the community, as is the case for other community events in our borough.鈥
大象传媒 political reporter Joshua Nevett went to meet the residents with some bright ideas about how to keep the lights on.
