Stakeknife presenter Mark Horgan: 'It's difficult to get the truth'
Mark Horgan, presenter of 大象传媒 podcast Stakeknife, on the importance of getting the truth.
A new 大象传媒 Sounds podcast tells the story of a notorious IRA informant, Freddie Scappaticci - codenamed 'Stakeknife'.
Freddie led a double life - acting as a senior member of the IRA whose job was to find and interrogate informers. But all the while he was working as a secret British military agent himself, described by the British Army as its 鈥済olden egg鈥.
Mark describes spending time with Seamus Kearney, whose brother Michael was one of the many victims of Stakeknife's killing unit the 'Nutting Squad'.
Seamus - a former member of the IRA himself - was tasked by his mother to find out what happened to Michael, and while Seamus had thought he knew where Michael had spent his last moments, Mark helped him discover the truth.
"Something extraordinary happened that day, I recognised from the research I'd done on the 大象传媒 Archive the place where Seamus' brother had been killed and it was in fact different to what Seamus had thought his whole life", Mark said.
