In December we heard how future work to lower a stretch of the A5 in Leicestershire is hoped will help cut the number of lorries crashing in a railway bridge over the road.

Hinckley Bridge on the A5 has been hit over fifteen times in 2024 alone and is fourth on the list of Network Rail's most bashed bridges.

Former HGV driver Steve Beaumont has lived near the bridge since 2021 and explained the regular disruption caused to local people, and Brian Maddison, a former British Rail engineer who built the current bridge after it was badly damaged back in 1975, spoke to 大象传媒 Leicester's Ady Dayman.

National Highways told us: 'Plans to lower the road are being undertaken by Padge Hall Development, which has planning consent in place and hopes to start work in the Spring of 2025. We are currently working with them to achieve technical assurance, which includes flood alleviation work, and once agreed the scheme can be undertaken.'
