Ozempic: The woman behind the science
A new generation of anti-obesity drugs are being hailed as game changers for the NHS and for millions of patients. The woman behind the science, Professor Lotte Bjerre Knudsen, began her work 30 years ago in developing appetite-supressing drugs for treating obesity. She鈥檚 now Chief Scientific Advisor to Novo Nordisk, the Danish pharmaceutical company that manufactures Ozempic. In an interview with Emma Barnett, she talks about the medicalisation and complexities of obesity; giving people the ability to switch off their hunger; and the moral questions surrounding the use of these drugs.
