Visiting Auschwitz 80 years after its liberation
On the 80th anniversary commemorations of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Katya Adler visits the Nazi death camp in which an estimated 1.1 million people died. Katya explores the camp at length, walking through the barracks and the ruins of the gas chambers, where 2000 Jewish people were killed at a time.
Katya speaks to Holocaust survivors Yisrael Abelesz and Eva Umlauf about their memories of Auschwitz and what these commemorations mean for those who can remember the dreadful time at the camp.
