'A week off school won't harm my child's education'
Mum Sarah from Leicester was fined for taking her kids out of school in term time.
Thirty seven thousand fines were issued across East Midlands in the academic year ending 2023, for families taking children out of school to go on holiday.
Data released by the 大象传媒 shows that Leicester is in the top 10 local authorities in the country with the highest rates of holiday fines per one thousand enrolments.
大象传媒 reporter Alix Hattenstone describes how the fines work. Sarah is a Mum from Leicester was fined for taking her kids out of school during term time and says that holiday companies should lower their prices during the summer months. And Pepe Di'laso - general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders - spoke to 大象传媒 Leicester's Ady Dayman.

A spokesperson from Leicestershire County Council said: 鈥淭he Department for Education national framework for school attendance sets out that parent and carers who wish to take their children out of school during term time need to seek permission from the Headteacher of the school. Alongside schools, we offer advice to parents whose children are experiencing difficulties in attendance to minimise the impact that missed school days can have on a child鈥檚 education.鈥
