Online auction site holiday scam
We speak to a Morning Live viewer who was the victim of fraud buying a holiday on eBay.
eBay may not instantly spring to mind as somewhere you’d go to, to book a holiday, but it’s becoming more common that you think, with over 2,000 package deals currently listed on the site. But, as with many online marketplaces, proceed with caution. We hear how Morning Live viewer and seasoned eBayer, Gill E, from East Riding, discovered the risks it can come with - after she was scammed out for over £6,000, when buying what she thought was a cruise holiday, that didn't really exist.
eBay told us it is sorry Gill E had this experience – and confirmed that travel tickets are not covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee.
It acknowledged that its customer service representative did give incorrect information and said it regrets the confusion. It says items covered by its guarantee are listed in the 'shop with confidence' section of a listing, and recommends buyers review any terms before purchase.
