The discovery of a nurse dead in the woods has similarities with a historic case. Amid fears of a copycat killer, DI Ffion Lloyd is called back to lead the investigation.
When the body of Abbi, a nurse, is discovered in Cleddau Woods with a heart-knot carved into a tree nearby, DS Rick Sheldon fears the worst. 12 years ago, two nurses were murdered in Cleddau Woods with heart-knots discovered nearby. But that killer, Paul Harvey, is now safely behind bars.
Hot shot Detective Inspector Ffion Lloyd, who also worked the historic murders, is called from Cardiff to help with the investigation, much to the chagrin of Rick鈥� because they weren鈥檛 just work colleagues twelve years ago 鈥� Rick and Ffion were engaged to be married.
What follows is as much an examination of a lost love story as it is a thrilling investigation of a murder. The clock is ticking - this could be a copycat and in the historic case the murders happened 7 days apart. As Ffion races to find the killer she will have to face her ghosts, professionally and personally. She thinks she let the town down last time, her feelings for Rick are still raw, at home she clashes with her fiery sister, Lisa, and discovers her father is increasingly confused.
Meanwhile, Rick鈥檚 wife Helen, also a nurse, is increasingly paranoid that her husband will be tripping down memory lane with his ex, rekindling feelings that she knows were never truly resolved.
The police have two suspects in their sights - Darren, Abbi鈥檚 boyfriend, an unemployed, fitness fanatic addicted to steroids 鈥� and Ryan, Abbi鈥檚 ex, an artist who appears to have a disturbing obsession with the historic murders.
But then Paul Harvey鈥檚 wife, Anna, comes to the station and drops a devastating bombshell that could change everything.
