A46 road closure misery for commuters

Commuters say the brief closure of the A46 for HS2 works will make journeys difficult.

The A46 between Kenilworth and Coventry will close for two full weekends in February and three weeks in March. It's so essential HS2 works can be carried out on the Kenilworth bridge but people who regularly use the route to get to work are worried about the impact it's going to have on them.
The Kenilworth stretch of the major highway will shut to allow a 14,500-tonne box structure, which will carry the railway underneath, to be moved into place.
It will be closed from Thickthorn Island to Festival Island for the next two weekends from 8pm through to 6am on Monday and fully closed for three weeks in March.
The National Highways said: "Our Network Availability Team is notified by HS2 of their planned closures.
This team co-ordinates closures on our network to avoid clashes with other works and minimise disruption as much as possible."
Vicki Lee, senior project manager for HS2 said "I would like to thank motorists for their patience in advance of the box push which is the start of the initial stage of preparation work during two February weekend closures of the road. This will allow us to carry out important work directly on the carriageway that would be unsafe for our workforce to do during live traffic.鈥
