Pregnancy termination: 'The most impossible choice'

Couples say they were mistakenly told their unborn babies had serious genetic conditions.

The 大象传媒 has learnt that a number of families now believe they were wrongly advised to have an abortion by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Two couples say they terminated their pregnancies after being mistakenly told their babies had genetic conditions.

A third couple say they were also urged to have an abortion, but now have a healthy child.

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust told the 大象传媒 they couldn't provide specific answers, as two of the families were speaking anonymously.

"Our foetal medicine teams provide a specialist regional service to hundreds of women and families a year from across the East Midlands," said the chief executive Anthony May.

"For women and families using this service, there will be times when they are faced with making very difficult and long-lasting decisions. We strive to support them to do that in the most compassionate and professional manner and we always want to hear from families who don't feel their experience matches that ambition."
