Angel Meadow is a fairly quiet part of Greater Manchester, but it was once a notorious slum, described as "hell upon earth".
Local historian Dean Kirkby has written a book about it called Angel Meadow: Victorian Britain's Most Savage Slum.
He told Jason Hardy more about it.
