Bed shortage keeps girl, 13, waiting for throat op
A 13-year-old girl with sleep apnoea has been left feeling anxious after crucial throat surgery was repeatedly postponed due to a shortage of hospital beds.
Lucy had been due to have her tonsils removed at the Leicester Royal Infirmary at the start of December but the operation was re-arranged when she contracted tonsillitis. Since then the surgery has been postponed a further four times due to there being no beds available.
University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) has apologised for the "continued delay" and the operation is due to finally go ahead in a fortnight.
Lucy's Mum Victoria spoke to 大象传媒 Leicester, and 大象传媒 East Midlands health correspondent Rob Sissons explains that the trust is trying to cut down on cancellations like these.
