Born from heartbreak, 鈥1in3鈥 was created after the brutal murder of Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei following the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
One of those involved in the Athletes Collective is Canadian doubles Grand Slam winning tennis star Gaby Dabrowski.
鈥淢y interest in 鈥1in3鈥 is because the stat was so powerful. I felt like I couldn鈥檛 look away. It鈥檚 not about why do you care, but how could you not?,鈥 Dabrowski said. 鈥淢y involvement is just from a passion of wanting to have a safer world for everyone.
鈥淲e believe it鈥檚 a crisis that demands the most urgent action. The stat in itself is unbelievably staggering. For us as athletes, I think it鈥檚 really important to use our platforms in a positive way and hopefully shed some light on this issue that affects so many people.鈥
