Polly and Louise
Edward and Hugh's daughters
Polly (Flora Spencer-Longhurst)
Polly is Hugh鈥檚 daughter by his first wife Sybil. She is a kind, gentle and beautiful girl, entirely unaffected and quite serious. As a child she loved to collect things for the beautiful house she dreamt of living in in the future and later worked in an interior design company. When she fell in love and married Gerald, one of her clients, she became Lady Fakenham and they live in his family鈥檚 crumbling stately home with their four children. It is a constant struggle to pay for the upkeep of the house and Gerald is not at all practical. Polly tries to come up with ways to make the house pay for itself but they often fail and the family have to resort to selling one of the collection of paintings.
Louise (Alix Wilton Regan)
Louise is Edward鈥檚 daughter by Villy. Louise has always had a difficult relationship with her mother, for whom she feels she can never do anything right and turned instead to her father, an action that led her to suffer dreadfully at his hands in her younger days. But they are on good terms again, now, despite the fact that Louise cannot stand, Diana, who she sees as controlling and her father as weak. Louise has had her own marital problems, walking out on her husband and child when she realised she had married too young a man she did not love. She believed she could not give their child the upbringing her much richer husband could and left them both. She now lives with her old friend, Stella, and makes her living as a model. But Louise鈥檚 need to be loved means she keeps entering into destructive relationships.
