Mercy was kind, down-to-earth and independent, with a strong moral compass. She was also a strict church goer on the orders of her religious grandmother, Grace.
Mercy feared God-fearing Grace's wrath when she discovered that she was pregnant after seeing a married man from her congregation. She later suffered a miscarriage.
Fatboy looked after her and tried to be her knight in shining armour. She was his big love, and when the opportunity came to marry her to extend her visa, he jumped at it.
Mercy loved Arthur, but only as a friend. And being a true friend, she couldn't lead him on in the knowledge that there was no chance she would ever truly want to be his wife. She decided to return to Nigeria anyway, and left in a black cab. She later annulled their marriage.
