The US special envoy to North Korea is preparing to head to Pyongyang for talks which could set the agenda for a planned second summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un. The visit comes as a UN report suggests North Korea is continuing to defy economic sanctions aimed at pressuring the state to give up its nuclear weapons.

Venezuela's opposition leader Juan Guaid贸 has dismissed warnings from President Nicol谩s Maduro the country's political crisis could spark civil war. Mr Guaid贸 has declared himself interim president and won support from major powers including the US. Mr Maduro said that whether there was war would depend on the "madness" of the US and its allies.

In the Somali capital Mogadishu, a car bomb exploded on Monday near a shopping centre, killing several people. And in Bosaso the head of Dubai-based P&O Ports was killed in what officials say was a targeted attack by the Somali militant group al-Shabab.
