NSW declares state of emergency over bushfires

High temperatures and strong winds are forecast for the weekend in the eastern Australian state.

The premier of New South Wales has declared a week-long state of emergency in response to the escalating bushfire threat; artificial intelligence is more accurate than doctors in diagnosing breast cancer from mammograms, a study in the journal Nature suggests; and at least 16 people have died in flooding in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, after the city had its most intense rainfall for at least 24 years.
