In Myanmar silent strikes have been staged across the country, in protest at the military coup that took place a year ago. The UN says Myanmar has descended into civil war and has appealed for record sums to help the Burmese people. We hear from people who have stayed at home in protest, as well as getting the latest developments from our colleagues at 大象传媒 Burmese.

The Beijing Winter Olympics officially open this week, and we bring you the first in our series of special conversations. Today we look at how China鈥檚 human rights record - particularly its treatment of Uyghur Muslims - has prompted a diplomatic boycott by a number of countries. We bring together three Uyghur activists to hear their stories.
