On Tour in Tunis

What has changed for artists and performers in Tunisia since the revolution of 2011?

The Arts Hour on Tour is in Tunis, to see how the artistic landscape has evolved in nearly eight years since protests in Tunisia sparked a series of uprisings that became known as the Arab Spring.
Nikki Bedi is on stage with star guests and performers to discuss the difference between cultural life in Tunis before and after the Tunisian revolution of 2011

There’s live music from Ghoula, sampling and scratching traditional songs, and from politically committed singer Badiaa Bouhrizi, whose powerful voice brings a jazzy edge to the Maghreb sound.

Film directors Nejib Belkadhi, Abdelhamid Bouchnak and Amel Guellaty discuss their new films, whose portrayals of autism, witchcraft and rebellious womanhood are making waves in Tunisia’s burgeoning film industry. Actress and writer, Marwa Manai talks about her starring role in the play `Fears’ and the impact it had on tour across Tunisia.

There’s live comedy from Meni Lahmar and a Culture Cab tour of secret artistic activities in the Medina, stories that only a local would know.
