Former astronaut Kathy Sullivan was the first American woman to walk in space in 1984. Last month, she became the first woman to submerge to the deepest known point in the ocean.

Kathy Sullivan was the first American woman to walk in space, in 1984. She has just returned from a mission to the deepest point underneath the oceans, the Mariana Trench in the Pacific. She is first and foremost a scientist; as we try to navigate our future, are we properly respecting the science?
