The Village Of Sex Offenders

We visit Restoration Destination to ask if the people living there deserve a second chance

Located among endless sugar-cane fields in a remote part of southern Florida, Restoration Destination stands as one of the largest communities for registered sex offenders in the United States. Created by a Christian ministry in 2009 as a response to strict state laws limiting where those found guilty of sex crimes can live, its rows of concrete bungalows are now home to over 100 men who’ve been placed on Florida’s Sex Offender Registry for the rest of their lives. Through therapy, counselling and support, Restoration Destination aims to help them reintegrate into society and reduce the likelihood of reoffending – but with the future of the community uncertain and claims Florida’s current residency restrictions aren’t working, journalist Conor Garrett goes to Restoration Destination to ask if the people living there deserve a second chance.
